Busting Superstition At Online Casino

We can all agree that luck plays a major part in gambling. Yes, we can play perfect blackjack strategy, but the dealer could still pull out blackjack after blackjack and beat us. The ball might take a good bounce at the roulette wheel and land in our number, or it might bounce out of our number at the last minute. We might go on a hot run, or we might suffer a cold run. At the end of the day, luck is the decisive factor on whether we win or lose.

People also have gambling superstitions that they believe will either be lucky or prevent bad luck from happening at the table. This could be before they start playing at online casino, or while they’re gambling. For example, they might put their left leg into their trousers first, as they perceive it to be lucky, or they might always kiss their partner before gambling. Likewise, at the table, there are superstitions galore. It’s “unlucky” to say, “seven” at the craps table, or betting against the shooter at craps is also unlucky.

Asian players are even more superstitious than their Western counterparts. In Chinese gambling culture, it’s unlucky to count your money during a gambling session and if you see a nun or a monk before you start gambling, you’re really out of luck, apparently! However, if you wear red underclothes, that’s a good thing and the number 8 is incredibly lucky.

Many players of roulette try the sleeping number tactic. This is the variant of the lightning not striking twice scenario described above. They think that if a number hasn't been the recipient of the silver ball, then it's high time it is. They keep records of the outcome of each spin until one number is left to win, and they stick a small fortune on it. Again, the odds of it winning are the same whether they carried out this tactic or not.

Online casinos are packed with these superstitions and no amount of logic is likely to win the ardent gamblers away from their precious delusions. Top online casinos would probably do well offering lucky charms to their patrons to squeeze and rub as the ball spins around the roulette wheel.

Then, of course, there's Lady Luck herself. How often do you hear someone say it's not their lucky night? However, psychology also plays a part in the whole online casino gambling experience. There's little doubt that a player who's up for the night, on a "lucky streak" is likely to play better, and make more correct decisions with their betting than one who's down on his luck, who is more likely to play recklessly and end up an even bigger loser.

Superstition/intuition are rarely discussed among people who like to play in casinos. I've never been sure why - is it because people are in a way ashamed of being superstitious or because they don't want to share their winning recipes. I've seen many people doing things due to superstition. Just look at some famous people - musicians, actors, sportspeople. If they can do it, why couldn't we?

Personally, I act upon my intuition. If I start playing a game and see it's not working, I don't always give up. However, there are games, especially slots, which I leave after only a couple of spins. Dunno why's that, but I guess it's gotta have something to do with my intuition. Also, if I lose some money on a game, I never give it another try again. And I guess that's related to my superstition.
